A shocked squirrel has scooped the overall prize in this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. Out of thousands of entries from around the world, Mary McGowan, from Tampa, Florida, won the overall prize with her photo titled Caught in the Act.

Shocked Squirrel, ‘Caught in the Act’

It’s another Watch example of squirrels performing for the camera and curious because squirrels feature heavily in The Earth Emperor’s Eye to highlight the implications for local wildlife of introducing alien species. More significantly, the Norse myth squirrel, Rataoskr, warns that, ‘The Time for Talking is Over.’ Perhaps the shocked squirrel’s presence is a further reminder to humanity to act now to preserve the natural world?
